Ahu Tongariki, Easter Island — Fifteen restored moai stand shoulder to shoulder on the largest ceremonial platform on the island, facing inland to watch over the community. Toppled during clan warfare and further scattered by a 1960 tsunami, they were re-erected in the 1990s with the aid of a Japanese-donated crane.
