Nijo Castle's most famous feature isn't visible in any photograph: floors engineered to squeak melodically under every footstep, an early-warning system against assassins. The shogunate had good reasons to be paranoid. Walking through and hearing the floors sing under you is one of those experiences that earns the visit.
