Simatai at night is the wall in its most unfiltered state — steep inclines, crumbling battlements on dramatic ridgelines, watchtowers that once relayed fire signals to Beijing within hours. This is the section that makes you understand why the wall's builders called it the longest cemetery on Earth. The people who built this didn't get to see it finished.
