From Jinshanling, the wall's full ambition becomes clear — snaking across mountain ridges for as far as the eye can reach, the culmination of nearly two millennia of construction. About 30% of the Ming wall has disappeared entirely, removed brick by brick by local residents over the centuries. What's left here is some of the best of it.
