St. John's Basilica, Selcuk (ancient Ephesus), Turkey — Emperor Justinian I built this five-domed basilica over the tomb of the apostle John on Ayasoluk Hill, creating one of the largest Byzantine churches in the world. The site had been venerated since the 2nd century AD; the present ruins date from Justinian's grandiose rebuilding in 527-565 AD.
