Amphitheater of Pompeii, Pompeii, Italy
Built around 80 BC, this is the oldest surviving stone amphitheater in the Roman world. It seated 20,000 people in a city of 11,000 — which tells you something about how seriously Pompeii took its entertainment. It also had its own notorious riot, in 59 AD. Jebulon, CC0, via Wikimedia Commons
