The interior of Bet Maryam is the most richly decorated of the eleven churches — painted frescoes, carved geometric patterns, birds, flowers, and the Star of David covering every surface. In Ethiopian tradition these symbols connect the Solomonic dynasty directly to King Solomon. Most visitors don't spend enough time in here. © A.
