Terrace of the Elephants, Angkor Thom, 12th Century — Carved elephants march in procession along the three-hundred-meter royal reviewing platform at the heart of Angkor Thom. King Jayavarman VII built this terrace to oversee military parades and ceremonies, its bas-reliefs alive with pachyderms gathering lotus flowers.
