Queen's Bedchamber, Versailles, France — The queen's official bedroom was one of the most public spaces in Versailles: queens of France gave birth here in the presence of courtiers, and every morning and evening the ritual lever (rising) and coucher (retiring) were attended by dozens of nobles. Nineteen children of France were born in this room.
