Sun Gate (Inti Punku), Machu Picchu — the principal entrance to Machu Picchu from the Inca Trail, a doorway in the mountain wall aligned so the rising sun illuminates the citadel below on the winter solstice. Arriving through it at dawn after four days of trekking replicates the experience of Inca pilgrims arriving for the most sacred festival of the year.
