Tomb of Nefertari (QV66), Valley of the Queens, Luxor, Egypt — The most beautifully decorated tomb in Egypt was built for Ramesses II's beloved chief wife, its walls covered in paintings of extraordinary delicacy showing the queen in the afterlife accompanied by the gods. Getty Conservation Institute spent decades restoring the salt-damaged paintings and now controls visitor access to preserve them.
