Chora Church (Kariye Camii), Istanbul, Turkey — This small Byzantine church on the city's ancient land walls contains some of the finest surviving Byzantine mosaics and frescoes in the world, created around 1320 AD. Its Anastasis fresco — showing Christ pulling Adam and Eve from their tombs — is a landmark of late Byzantine painting.
