Alcazaba Fortress, Alhambra, Granada, Spain — The oldest part of the Alhambra complex, this military citadel with its watchtowers predates the Nasrid palaces by centuries. The Torre de la Vela (Watchtower) bell was rung each year on January 2 to commemorate the 1492 Reconquista, and traditionally any unmarried woman who rang it would be married within the year.
