Llama on the Terraces, Machu Picchu, Peru — a resident llama grazes among the ancient stone walls, a living link to the Inca era when herds roamed the citadel grounds. The animals helped maintain the terraces by cropping grass, and today a small group of llamas still inhabits the site, greeting visitors along the pathways.
