Mont Saint-Michel Abbey Church, Normandy, France — The abbey church's nave, begun in the 11th century in Romanesque style, was completed in Flamboyant Gothic above the chorus in the 15th century. A gilded copper statue of Archangel Michael slaying the dragon, placed at the summit in 1897, crowns the spire at 156 meters above sea level.
