Temple of the Sun, Machu Picchu — the finest curved stonework in the Inca world, its windows aligned to admit the solstice sunrise onto a sacred stone. Below the temple lies a cave used as a royal mausoleum, its stone carved into an altar with niches for ritual offerings.
