Dome of the Rock, Jerusalem, Israel/Palestine — The oldest surviving Islamic monument in the world was completed by Umayyad Caliph Abd al-Malik on the Temple Mount, where the Jewish Temple had stood. Its golden dome, rebuilt in 1994 with 80 kilograms of gold donated by the late King Hussein of Jordan, dominates Jerusalem's skyline.
