Borobudur Bell Stupas at Sunrise, Java, Indonesia — The 72 latticed bell-shaped stupas on the three circular terraces each enclose a seated Buddha in meditation, visible through the geometric openings. At sunrise the mist-wreathed silhouette of these stupas against the Kedu Plain and distant volcanoes creates one of the world's most otherworldly landscape vistas.
