Royal Chapel of Versailles, Versailles, France — Completed under Louis XIV in the last years of his reign, this two-story chapel with barrel-vaulted nave was where the royal family heard daily Mass from the upper gallery while the court assembled below. Royal marriages and baptisms took place here; Louis XV and Marie Antoinette were married in this chapel in 1770.
