Taj Mahal Minaret Detail, Agra, India — Each of the four minarets stands 40 meters tall and leans very slightly outward by about 2.5 degrees, a deliberate structural precaution so that in the event of collapse the towers would fall away from the precious tomb. The octagonal balconies from which the muezzin called the faithful to prayer are decorated with fine marble jali screens.
