House of the Faun Mosaic, Pompeii, Italy — The largest private house in Pompeii contained the most celebrated mosaic in the ancient world: an enormous floor panel nearly 6 meters wide depicting Alexander the Great's victory over Darius III at the Battle of Issus. Now in the Naples Archaeological Museum, it depicts over 30 figures with extraordinary naturalism.
