Archangel Michael Statue, Mont Saint-Michel, France — Emmanuel Fremiet's gilded copper statue of Archangel Michael trampling the dragon was added in 1897 to complete the Gothic spire rebuilt after lightning struck the old one. At 4.5 meters tall and covered in gold leaf, it serves as both a lightning rod and a religious symbol, its golden form visible across the bay for many miles.
