Luxor Temple at Night, Luxor, Egypt — Built primarily by Amenhotep III and Ramesses II, this temple at the center of modern Luxor is dominated by a 25-meter obelisk of Ramesses II — its twin was given to France in 1833 and stands in the Place de la Concorde in Paris. The temple was the setting for the annual Opet festival renewing the pharaoh's divine power.
