Temple Mount (Al-Haram al-Sharif), Jerusalem, Israel/Palestine — The 14-hectare plaza atop the mount, supported by Herodian retaining walls, is the most contested religious site on Earth. At its center stand the Dome of the Rock and Al-Aqsa Mosque, while Jewish tradition holds the site of Solomon's Temple somewhere beneath the paved surface.
