Western Wall (Kotel), Jerusalem, Israel — The massive limestone blocks of this retaining wall, built by Herod the Great as part of his expansion of the Temple Mount, are among the holiest objects in Judaism. Each stone weighs between 2 and 570 tonnes; the largest ever found weighs 570 tonnes and is one of the heaviest objects ever moved in antiquity.
