House of the Virgin Mary (Meryem Ana Evi), near Ephesus, Turkey — This small stone house on a wooded hill 9 kilometers from Ephesus has been identified since the 19th century as the possible last home of Mary, the mother of Jesus, brought here by the apostle John. Pope Paul VI visited in 1967, Pope John Paul II in 1979, and Pope Benedict XVI in 2006, each celebrating Mass at the site.
