Gate of Hadrian (Mazaeus and Mithridates Gate), Ephesus, Turkey — This three-arched gate at the southwest entrance to the Lower Agora was built by two freed slaves of Augustus as a memorial to their patron and his family. Its inscription names Augustus, Livia, Agrippa, and Julia, providing a historical snapshot of the imperial family at the height of Roman power.
