Generalife Gardens, Alhambra, Granada, Spain — The summer palace and gardens of the Nasrid sultans rise above the main palace on the hillside, with terraced water gardens whose channels, fountains, and jets create an Edenic refuge from the Andalusian heat. The name derives from Arabic 'Jannat al-Arif,' meaning 'Garden of the Architect'.
